The best way we can describe this race is to say the Estes Park Marathon is an athletic journey you will never forget! As with all great journeys, the beauty will inspire you to overcome physical challenges, psychological hurdles, and celebrate all that is good about being active and alive! Everyone who crosses the finish line expresses appreciation and recognizes their accomplishment. You will be greeted by a cheering crowd who will join in with your celebrations.
The 2010 Estes Park Marathon will be the first cup-free paved marathon in the USA - thank you for choosing to be a part of this historic event! See more details below on how we are taking steps to help the environment and reduce waste.

Marathon course description:

Starting at the Aquatic Center parking lot, the course heads west on Graves Avenue.and turns uphill (south) onto Hwy 7. After turning left onto Community Drive, begin a gradual downhill for a half mile to a right on Manford Avenue. The course travels through the school district complex to Brodie Avenue, where it takes a left, downhill to Fish Creek Road. The course now winds it's way south gradually uphill for 4 miles to the high point of the course (8150 feet) at Hwy 7.

Here you head northwest on Hwy 7 and turn left onto Mary's Lake Road. The course traverses across open meadows and next to the shores of Mary's Lake. As the course winds downhill from gradual to steep, Lumpy Ridge and the Mummy Range loom in the distance. A right turn onto Riverside Avenue leads to some steeper downhills and flat terrain through a wooded residential area, eventually taking you onto Elkhorn Avenue and downtown Estes Park.

After going through the tunnel under Hwy 36 and looping back up onto the highway, the course travels east paralleling Lake Estes. Here you turn left onto Mall Road, and a bike trail, that takes you across Wapiti Meadow and the dam, the lowest point on the course (7420 feet). Continue around Lake Estes, past the golf course and through the coned Visitor Center parking lot to Big Thompson Avenue (Hwy 34). Head east on a steep hill and turn left onto Elk Court.

The course winds through an open residential area that is mostly flat to downhill. Take a left onto North Lake Avenue, which is a downhill paralleling Hwy 34. Turn left onto Dry Gulch Road. The course climbs gradually for 3 miles and turns south onto Devils Gulch Road. The course is mostly downhill to mile 23, except for a 1/4 mile steep uphill after mile 21. Mixed terrain takes you past the Stanley Hotel and down to Hwy 34. The course goes through the coned visitor center parking lot onto the bike trail around Lake Estes. The last 2 miles travels along the south side of Lake Estes, through the tunnel under Hwy 36, past the Stanley Fairgrounds and sports areas, and up to Brodie Avenue, turning right for a very short uphill before entering the Estes Park High School track and field at the SE corner. Complete less than one lap of the track counter clockwise and be greeted by enthusiastic crowds at the finish line!

All our courses are recognized for being well marked - just follow the white EPM signs on the paths and roads.
